Managing in today’s dynamic and competitive environment calls for two critical capabilities from Business Managers – The need to be functionally competent in a global context and The ability to set and drive organizational agenda for growth and performance. This calls for Functional Mastery combined with Personal Leadership.
Advanced Management Programme enables the participants to manage this dual development agenda.

Programme Objectives:

The Advanced Management Programme is designed to empower senior executives to achieve both personal and professional transformation by fostering strategic thinking and decisive action.

The programme aims to:

  • Develop participants into strategic thinkers and leaders within their specific organizational contexts.
  • Enhance their understanding of current concepts and practices across relevant functional areas, enabling them to anticipate emerging challenges and plan for future success.
  • Integrate functional knowledge and experiences with a broader organizational perspective, allowing participants to appreciate the interconnectedness of the entire system.
  • Encourage reflection on personal leadership skills and the role of executives as catalysts for change within their organizations.

Leadership Development Acceleration through 360-Degree Feedback

360-Degree Feedback (360 DF) is a progressive system of providing feedback to senior leaders. The AMP uses a 360DF tool by a leading Global organization. The results are useful for them as they review how their critical stakeholders have experienced their leadership. The report provides a measure of their leadership impact vis-a- vis a global competency framework. The results are kept confidential. The 360 DF tool will be administered online by the vendor, and results will form part of an Individual Development Plan (IDP) for each participant.

Target Audience

The participants for this programme would typically:

(a) have about 15+ years of experience with a minimum of eight years in managerial positions
(b) occupy senior management position with team building/development responsibilities
(c) be looking to lead the company/subsidiary/centre in the next 2-3 years

Focus Areas

Focus Area 1:  Personal Mastery

One of the primary requirements of effective leadership is a deep understanding of the self and developing personal and emotional resilience. Communicating with clarity and empathy, developing a personal vision and maximizing human potential through team synergy can result in transformative leadership. Apart from classroom discussions, the module would involve Leadership Development and Acceleration through 360 Degree Feedback.

Focus Area 2:  Functional Excellence

Functional Excellence focuses on advanced topics in various functional areas of management including financial acumen for understanding the value creation cycle of the organization and decision-making; marketing management and strategy in a digital world; operations management to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of operations; human resource management for developing strong people strategy and processes; business/corporate strategy and entrepreneurship to stay relevant in the context of dynamic market conditions.

Focus Area 3:  Effective Decision Making

For any professional learning to be effective, it is important that we provide opportunities for the application of concepts and frameworks to solve problems and implement solutions. AMP provides opportunities to put the functional leadership learning to use – through business simulation and project work to solve a real business problem. The business simulation is played in groups to help participants integrate their functional learnings and develop a holistic understanding of the problem
and the solutions. The group business project may include analyzing problems that participants face in their organizations wherein other group members play the role of internal consultants or include a business plan project.

Focus Area 4:  Global Business Awareness Module

The Global Business Awareness module focuses on the issues managers face when operating in global
markets. Awareness and sensitivity to global business challenges are critical for today’s successful leaders. The Global Business Awareness module provides the participants with exposure to various forms of Internationalization, Global/International/ Transnational/ multi-domestic strategies. Topics may include and not limited to creating and managing global supply chains, managing International strategic alliances, cross-cultural context. This module would be delivered by University of St. Gallen (HSG), Switzerland. Pedagogy would include field visits to organizations, to understand these concepts in action.

Focus Area 5: Strategic Stewardship

To enable effective transfer of learning from cognitive appreciation to implementable action, the Strategic Stewardship area focuses on preparing the participants to reflect on their learnings and experiences to create their own signature styles of leadership and define for themselves certain boundaries of action. The module will focus on issues relating to managing workplace diversity, affirmative action, corporate governance, business ethics, corporate social responsibility and conservation of the natural environment. Learning and reflection on these issues would be enabled through interactive sessions and talks from thought leaders drawn from various fields.

Testimonials

  • The course has not only helped me understand my role as a leader and reflect on the skills required to become a good leader but also improved my world view. Along with classroom learning there was a lot of peer learning as the cohort was carefully selected from different industries which enhanced the learning experience. The international immersion week at St. Gallen (Switzerland) gave us a first-hand perspective on the way the world economy is evolving and Switzerland’s contribution to the world economy. I will recommend this course for all senior leaders and entrepreneurs.

    Madhulika Tiwari - AMP 16
Partner - Retail, Food & Consumer Goods, Technopak Advisors Pvt. Ltd
  • After spending about 18-19 years in the industry, I felt it was important to go back to academics and apprise myself of the evolving trends in business today, including economic, digital and strategic themes that have gained traction in recent years and also prepare myself for more senior leadership positions. I was looking for a program that combined the best of both worlds – excellent academic credentials and great industry connect. The Advanced Management Program from IIM Bangalore was best placed in this regard. The program put together a senior & accomplished cohort of talented individuals from different fields. The various modules were curated with an aim of establishing business/ finance/strategy fundamentals in the first few months and then moving to larger relevant themes of digitisation, platforms, entrepreneurship and leadership. There were complimented with modules on macro and international economics that framed the geopolitical perspective. I also had the opportunity to attend the week-long international immersion at the University of St Gallen, Switzerland covering topics as diverse as Leadership, China, international manufacturing and supply chain and global innovation. It was a fabulous experience. The AMP has been a truly transformative experience, yet one that was both challenging and rigorous, and certainly one that expanded my professional network and gave me friends and memories for a lifetime.

    Amrita Divay - AMP 15
Head of Business Development, India at Apex Group
  • After 20+ years in the workforce, enrolling in a rigorous program like AMP which is targeted towards developing senior leaders, helped me get back on the learning track. Faculty put together a workable weekend schedule for the cohort. The program content was organised into broad areas and the faculty was accommodating to the learning needs of the class. Adequate focus is on Finance, Strategy, Marketing, Innovation and Org Design. The learning is by way of case studies that enable a better understanding of concepts / frameworks and how to apply them in real life. The varied experiences of the cohort lend to a healthy debate and class discussions that exposes one to different viewpoints and help think laterally. The Capstone project and the main Project help in applying and solidifying the knowledge gained with guidance from the mentors. Overall a rigorous program with support from the distinguished IIMB faculty and my fellow participants made it an unforgettable and an invaluable experience.

    Ankur Gupta - AMP 14
    Director, Fidelity Investments Pvt. Ltd.
  • I have much better clarity and confidence about my leadership journey. Thanks to brilliantly designed and well executed AMP-13 program. Peers were from diverse personal, functional, and industry background and shared wisdom and learnings from their practical experience. I would strongly recommend it for senior functional leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs.
