Programme Overview

  • Encompassing private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, hedge funds and private credit, the Alternative Investments industry is rapidly growing in scale and relevance – accounting for ~15% of the overall global AUM
  • Alternatives’ AUM is expected to grow globally from $16 TN in 2023 to $25 TN by 2028
  • In India, over $400 BN has been invested by PE/VC funds since 2013; over $60 BN has been invested by Real Estate funds during this timeframe.
  • Over 1300 Indian Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) are now registered with SEBI with an investment commitment of nearly INR 8 lakh crores
  • An increasingly large number of financial institutions, entrepreneurs, family offices and HNIs, corporate finance professionals, investment bankers, private bankers, lawyers, due-diligence professionals, and advisors are getting exposed to this growing industry
  • This course intends to give them a practitioner’s perspective of the industry to help them understand & navigate it better
  • It is curated for professionals who have recently entered or are looking to transition into this sector and for managers in organizations regulators are seeking to interface with this sector.

Programme Objective

  • Given the scale of activity and growth within Alternatives, more and more professionals & entrepreneurs are looking to understand this industry better and many wish to make a career out it as well.
  • The objective of the programme is to provide participants a holistic, real-world understanding of the Alternatives industry – to enable them to comprehend its inner workings as well as the opportunities and challenges it presents.

Programme Content

  • The programme aims to deliver to its participants, a practitioner’s understanding of the Alternatives industry. It is NOT structured like a private equity valuation course.

Programme Structure

  • Alternative investments industry overview
  • Types of Alternative funds and their characteristics including PE, VC, RE, Credit etc
  • Typical investment process including valuation, structuring and documentation
  • Portfolio management & exits
  • Perspectives of fund investors & investee companies
  • Capital raising & regulatory structuring for funds
  • Inside an Alternatives organization
  • Additional relevant content: refreshers on Financial Concepts & Business Communications

Key Benefits / Takeaways

  • By the end of the course, participants are expected to become familiar with the market structure, business dynamics and the operating environment of the Alternatives industry. Participants intending to make a career in Alternatives should be able to understand what working directly within this sector could mean for them
  • Many more participants may not choose a career in Alternatives but are likely to deal with this sector – perhaps as a startup founder / investor / banker / lawyer / corporate finance executive – and they should be able to discern the key drivers for Alternative funds and what working alongside such funds might mean

Pedagogy

  • The course delivery will be a combination of lectures, industry interactions, case studies and a project
  • Keeping in mind the real-world focus of the programme, the pedagogy would include extensive practitioner insights, as well as live examples of the concepts covered
