This course on Capital Markets and Risk Management provides a framework to build effective decision-making skills based on sound financial knowledge, understand the innovations in financial markets, pricing and valuation of financial products, manage day-to-day operational issues, read the underlying stories in financial data, and fathom the technological advances in financial services.
India’s capital markets are catching up with the country’s ambitious development plans with wider participation of institutional, foreign and individual investors. The number of active NSE investor clients rose to 33.4 million and Demat account holders increased to 129.7 million by end of September 2023. India’s market capitalisation skyrocketed to $4 trillion, more than 30 times in last twenty years and emerged as Fifth biggest in the world. As India’s capital markets are reaching global standards offering wide opportunities for companies to raise resources, there are diversification opportunities for investors and career opportunities for a large number of professionals. Capital market intermediaries like investment bankers, merchant bankers, stock brokers, are offering career opportunities as analysts, valuation experts, traders, mid office research staff and multiple business executive roles. When such opportunities galore and the economy is showing evidence of strong growth, it is imperative to understand the importance of Investing, investment markets, building up an optimized portfolio and planning for retirement. Being an academic institution of excellence, IIMB is meeting this gap in professional skills that the markets are demanding currently.
A strong grounding in financial analysis in decision-making for businesses and investors is the need of the hour, through three core areas: decision-making to invest or not, decision-making on how to finance a project, and after investing, managing the risk. This course aims to do just that.
The course follows a three-pronged approach to understanding finance. Firstly, the course starts with the instructors teaching the conceptual aspects of finance. Secondly, practical assignments and cases would be discussed and solved in class. Thirdly, this course prepares the participant to take up exams such as SEBI registered investment Advisor and CFA level 1 and 2. Understanding the dynamics of the fast-paced economy and markets, and exploring the facets of regulation, and nuances of financial technology is very essential and this course brings a comprehensive outlook of the same.
